Yes, even in the province of Quebec their terrain with avalanches such as the Chic Choc mountains. These mountains are in a Park and they will not let yu go up on your own, you need to be a team of 3 minimum and at least one in the group with avalanche awareness. They also teach you backcountry skills which applies in any remote outdoor area. I'm searching for the nearest training clinic to take a beginner coarse, I'll need it eventually.
